Dear Mom O'Poodles,

W: We are in a new place. We had a long car ride. I got sick once but that was only because bro took up the whole back seat by stretching out on it so I was all scrunched up in the corner. It wasn't so bad getting sick. Bro widdled on the carpet in the house twice yesterday.

H: I couldn't help it! I was excited because there were so many strange smells.

W: When we were in the car our new mama and papa talked about new names for us. Instead of calling me Tiny, which I am not at all, you know, they sometimes call me Woody. Sometimes they call me "No, Woodruff Lace O'Shannon, No."

H: I am usually called Huck but when I had my little accident on the carpet, I'm so embarrassed about that, they called me Huckleberry Lace O'Shannon. I learned that Huckleberry is both a literary name and a botanical name which sounds very impressive. What does literary and botanical mean? I have been a very good boy and am learning to walk on a leash.

W: I'm good, too! I barked at a huge deer that was right by our kennel. Huck was hiding in our new house pigging all the chew toys for himself. The deer was so scared of me that he ran away.

H: We have some cats here. They don't think we're cute. Why don't they think we're cute? We found a big mirror and we can see ourselves in it. We think we are very cute.

W: I am not cute! I am majestically handsome, brave and fearsome. I made the deer run away. I tried barking at the cats and they don't run like the deer did. They are much smaller than the deer. They are only as big as a toy poodle. Why don't they run?

H: The big one is almost as big as a miniature poo. What does "make my day" mean? The female cat says she is the alpha female in the house and if we are good she'll let us use the computer whenever we want.

W: We are doing some fun stuff like walking in the woods on the leash and today we played with new balls. My ball is blue and Hucks ball is red. Of course he keeps taking mine so I have to take his.

H: Besides school we have lots and lots of things to do. Like taking Daddy to the ferry in the morning and picking him up at night and exercising Mama.

W: Don't forget to tell about practising deer stalking and hunting.

H: Yeah, you made me be the deer and then you bit me on the neck! I was on antibiotics for a couple weeks and still have a bare spot on my neck.

W: Well, the hair is growing back and I just got a little carried away.

H: This week we have been playing truffle hunters and try to find all the moldy stuff that grows in the woods. We also work hard at chasing all the birds out of the yard. I love to make the birds fly.

W: If you would pay more attention to going potty than chasing birds you wouldn't have accidents in the house.

H: Shut up! Do you want me to tell all about your worms? I bet you still have some.

W: Do not! You have accidents in the house!

H: Do too! If you are going to talk about the accidents when the last one was your fault, I'm going to hit send!

W: Wait! Mama isn't looking.  That nasty vet lady sticks things up my butt and cut off my balls!

H: Yeah, mine too! And the groomer lady squeezes my butt. Tell our Daddy Gus to come up here and beat up on those women. They are bad!

Love,
Huck and Woody

This is the life
Its swell here!

Dear friends and family, this year has been more exc

Fluffy: There I got it all erased. I'm so good, purr. Mom has never figured out how I can erase a whole page like that. She can't do it because she only has two hands and I use three paws.

Woody: Gee, Aunt Fluffy you really are good. Will you teach me to use the keyboard like that?

Fluffy: You can't use a keyboard. Your feet are too big. Just stay with the speaker thingy.

Huck: All right, all right. I want to tell everyone how good I've been so Santa will bring me lots of presents. I want one of those cars with no top so the wind will blow my ears when we go for a car ride. I've been very good this year.

Fluffy: Dogs who stand in the middle of the dining table and jump on the sofa are not good. Only cats can get on the table.

Huck: I am so good. I take Mama for walks.

Woody: Yeah, me too and Mama is much healthier. She's lost 9 pounds since we came and her blood pressure is down, so there! What else have we done?

Huck: We take Daddy to work and pick him up in the car. And we take Mama and Daddy to obedience school.

Woody: We were very gentle with Gramma when she came to visit with us while her house was getting fixed and we even shared our toys with her dog.

Huck: I liked having doggy company. That's what I like best about obedience school, there are other dogs there.

Woody:  That's because you have to train Daddy and he is almost impossible to train. Mama learns real fast so it is fun to work with her.

Fluffy: Daddy has always been hard to train. I think human males are just harder to train than the females.

Huck: What else? Oh yeah, we didn't get to be in the parade with the other island poodles because Daddy had knee surgery the day before the parade and we did not complain at all. We kept Daddy company while he couldn't walk and helped Mama take care of him.

Woody: We take good care of Jamie too. We are very gentle with her because she is kinda shy with us. Maybe that is because she is not home much.

Huck: Yeah, she is always running off to do something like talking with her hands.

Fluffy: She talks with her hands for people who cannot hear so they can see what she is saying.

Huck: Mama said Jamie made a movie too. I wonder if it was like the ones Daddy watches with all the people kissing? I don't think there were any dogs in it because I couldn't smell any when she got home.

Fluffy: No, no Mama would pass out if Jamie made a movie with kissing. I think she made the movie at church. She wrote out what she was going to say on her computer and she was talking about how God has taken care of her. What else have you done?

Woody: We help in the garden. We bark at the deer and raccoons.

Huck: Boy, would I love to bite that stupid raccoon. I hate the way he sits at the edge of the woods yelling bad words at us. I am going to eat him some day. I am a big fierce hunting dog.

Woody: I think we are more like farm dogs because we help Mama take her flowers up to Burton to sell them. What else?

Huck: I think we are getting Mama and Daddy trained not to go away and leave us home with Jamie for days and days and days. They haven't done that for a long time because we act afraid of Melissa when she comes to take care of us. I don't care if Melissa did write a book that will be for sale next year and she'll be famous. I want Mama and Daddy to stay home.

Woody: Maybe Melissa will be so famous and busy with her book she won't have time to come walk us so Mama and Daddy will not be able to leave.

Huck: Maybe the space aliens she writes about will come and take her away.

Fluffy: You just wait. I don't know why Mama and Daddy did not go away for more than a couple weekends this yeaer but sometimes they go away and don't come back for weeks. I don't think you'll break them of that bad habit. Heaven knows that Tiger and I have tried for years. What else have you done?

Huck: I know what else! We've been very kind to Dottie since Melanie went away to school and left Dottie here.

Fluffy: You don't tease Dottie becasue she's a smart cat and treats you with appropriate contempt. When will you ever learn not to chase Tiger and Dandy?

Woody: Melanie is coming home for the holidays. I know because I heard Mama on the phone ordering a plane ticket for her but I think she will leave Dottie here when she goes home again because Mama didn't buy a ticket for Dottie to go back to San Francisco. Have we done or learned anything else?

Huck: Hmm, no that is about it. Wait! I know what else we learned and it's really really important! NEVER, NEVER, EVER, NO MATTER HOW SLEEPY YOU GET, FALL ASLEEP AT THE VET'S OFFICE! You will be missing something very important when you wake up.

Woody: Amen

Huck: Now will I get the car with no top?
